2017 Reflections
2017! I can't believe it - you were one wild ride! I'm somewhere stuck between a fairy tale and realisation - the growth I've experienced is unbelievable! The people I've meet and captured have truly altered my perspective on life and photography. I’m so grateful for these amazing experiences and opportunities I’ve had over the past year. Some have made me take a step back, been a learning curve whilst others have brought tears of joy to my eyes.
Here are seventeen of my favourite 2017 photo based moments and memories:
1) An equine session with Katherine and Pearl laughing so hard that our cheeks hurt. Whilst I tried to avoid getting run over during taking this. I was reassured, "We always stop just before we hit a person."
2) Howick College Oscars Awards Evening - seeing the love, the tears and the support these people have for one another and the long editing session that meant I was up to 2am the next morning. The appreciation for these photographs was amazing. I still cannot comprehend the amount of support I have received.
3) Catherine’s senior portrait session before she left for Italy, especially the unforgettable light before sunset. This was utterly magical.
4) Jessica’s acting head shots - with a tight schedule we managed to still get some of my favourite shots. It was truly refreshing to work with this young talented and hard working lady again!
5) Media accreditation at Woodhill Sands SJ Cup, never have I felt more joy or been brought to happy tears like that in my life. It has been a dream to be in such a big arena surrounded by talented show jumpers.
6) A collaborative photo session with Caitlin before she began her first year at University in a nearby serene reserve. She truly has a beautiful heart.
7) Photographing with media accreditation for the second year in a row at the NZ Fitness Expo at the ASB Showgrounds allowed me to capture some truly inspirational people and candid moments. Including this favourite of mine showing two young ladies strength.
8) Ashlyn’s and Thomas’s equine shoot where I finally got to meet her and the very photogenic and her horse the funny and cheeky Thomas!
9) Steph and Niki's engagement party - full of love, laughs and class!!
10) Capturing the moments between Katherine and her other horse Hamlin as their hard work paid off in the HOY 2017 show ring. I think her smile and amazement really speaks for itself in this picture.
11) Chiara's water portrait session where she resiliently stayed in the icy water whilst I tip toed around it to get that desired image.
12) The ADRA Charity Run event where I was the event photographer for the second year running. So many inspiring people pushing themselves in the name of a great cause.
13) Howick College Sports Awards where the room was filled with heaps of lovely smiles and acknowledgements of dedication paying off. Below is my favourite shot from the evening of their sportsperson of the year.
14) Chiara's edgy photo shoot where she told me all about her plans for university next year in Germany.
15) Umbar’s 18th birthday party - a lighting challenge accepted.
16) Howick College's first eleven soccer team’s first game of the season versus Macleans close to the sunset across a beautiful horizon.
17) The website session where I had to be a model in front of the camera - quite different compared to being on the other side, but still a lot of fun.
