2018 Goals

There is always a huge discussion on resolutions, goals and a fresh start at the time of the new year. It gives us hope and a little kick start of motivation to improve, better ourselves and try new exciting things. Personally, I believe that these aspirations can be broken down furthermore into resolutions, general values, bucket list items and specific goals. I use these to refer to throughout the year. I’m a big believer that you can stick to resolutions and should use them to guide your more specific goal setting to help achieve them. I’ve loved working towards them, keeping my motivation high and aiming for growth over the past years.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how I interpret each of these to create a stable foundation toward achieving those goals. Resolutions are the more general wider picture aims in conjunction with the smaller bucket list items. The values are what I would like to hold myself accountable for. The specific goals are targeted largely to get a wider audience. This blog post is designed to keep myself accountable, tell you how I would like to grow this year and maybe even inspire a few of you to stick to those goals. For resolutions, I also endeavor to have a quote, which I can use as a theme of the year to keep my motivation high throughout hard times.

This year my general resolutions are:

  • Print more photographs

I always love looking through albums at photos and it has reminded me how precious it is to print photographs as well as having digital versions of them. I hope to work towards offering prints for the company soon too, but I would rather be well researched about them to ensure my clients get the quality they are looking for. This general goal is aimed at both business and personal fulfillment.

  • Take, create and savor more opportunities

Use a journal – Gather bits of inspiration and creativity for if I get into a creative block. I’m going to use this to renew my motivation and grow as a photographer and person. Develop and work on dream projects to photograph. Especially keep a list of people I would like to collaborate with and if the opportunity arises jump on it.  Whilst truly treasuring and appreciate that moment by giving it 110% of my energy through being present in the moment.

  • Challenge myself

From higher turn overs of images to shooting in more challenging conditions and locations to taking more calculated risks. This also includes aiming to upload regularly on all social media platforms and regular blog posts. Being committed to organizing and preparing marketing and those uploads in advance.

  • Learn more of a language (German)

I have a lot of German friends and inspirations, so I would love to communicate more with them and grow my knowledge to be able to speak and read it more fluently.

Some smaller bucket list items I have are:

  • Get a tattoo (excited to have already ticked this one off)
  • Go on a road trip
  • Watch ‘The Greatest Showman’
  • Watch 'Love Actually'
  • Read Cape Verdean Blues (Pitt Poetry Series) by Shauna Barbosa

General Values:

My aim is to personalize each session to each client and their specific needs to produce works that really reflect them. Take more behind the scenes footage, so everyone gets a better insight into what a session is like or being a part of media at events. Mix everything up by going location scouting to find amazing new different places to suit a variety of different people and their personalities. I’d like to stay committed to turning over photos quickly, especially from events.

Specific targeted goals:

  • Reach more people

Beginning with the obvious I have various social media goals, some small whilst others are bigger. By the end of the year I would like to increase the FB page to 250 – 300 likes, Instagram following to 400, YouTube subscribers to 10 and finally Pinterest following to 10. These are only just numbers; the real goal here is to increase to interaction with you guys. I’d also love to interact more with my current audience through question and answers, captions and videos.

  • Scheduling + Creating

Make specific time periods for writing blog posts, so that I can upload or schedule them every two weeks from sessions to tips to more lifestyle content. Have a set time where I check my emails only twice a day (I’m well known for mindless updating them). Posting to Instagram every day, the FB page every 2 weeks, Pinterest every week or so, YouTube every month. This is all in conjunction with checking the website contact form every 1-2 days and developing content people enjoying being updated with.

  • Create a mailing list

This is aimed to share projects I’ve been working on, content and tips, especially to advise people when the blog is updated with content that is engaging and interesting.

Leave a comment with your goals down below! I’d love to hear what you have planned coming up.

Below are some shoots from the start of the year.
